Back in 2007, on New York’s Upper East Side, neurosurgeon Dr. David Langer saw his patients constantly overwhelmed by stress and information, often forgetting or misunderstanding their care instructions. He needed a better way to help them.
Enter the iPod.
Dr. Langer had an idea: why not use video? He started recording video instructions on his iPod for his neurosurgery patients, letting them replay and share their care plans at home. Inspired by the booming wave of smart devices and social media, Dr. Langer developed more ways for clinicians to communicate with patients through video at the point of care. By 2017, a clinical study showed that these videos significantly boosted patient satisfaction and hospital ratings—solid proof that he was onto something big.
