In a recent interview with Digital Health Wire, Dr. David Langer, neurosurgeon and co-founder of Playback Health, shared the inspiration behind launching the platform and why he believes ambient AI is key to improving communication in healthcare.
“Back in 2006, one of the frustrations I encountered was that I would talk to patients, and they’d forget what I told them,” Dr. Langer explains. “Especially when it came to reviewing an MRI, CT scan, or discharge instructions—anything during the transition of care. They’d seem like they understood, then call the next day.”
To solve this, Dr. Langer began experimenting with video recordings of his consultations, giving patients a way to revisit important information. This approach laid the foundation for Playback Health, a HIPAA-compliant app designed to bridge the communication gap between patients, doctors, and care teams using technology at the point of care.
Dr. Langer also addressed the growing role of ambient AI in healthcare and why clinicians shouldn’t be intimidated by its integration.
“It’s daunting for doctors to start using ambient AI in their workflows,” he said, “but once they start, it’s pretty darn easy. That’s why it’s taking off the way it has.”
